PPA 5 Winners Announced

We're pleased to announce the Winners for the fifth Podcast Peer Awards. You can find a complete list of the winners and the finalists here.

Some contests were close, with the winners taking the trophy by one or two votes. Others won by a wide lead. All of them are fine shows that beat out tens out thousands of other podcasts to win the prize.

DragonCon, where we held our award ceremony, was a blast. Thanks to everyone who helped with the awards, and congratulations to the winners and the finalists.

Many of the winners and finalists aren't found in top ten lists. The Podcast Peer Awards can help you find great shows that would otherwise be under your radar. And don't just look at this round - every past winner and nominee is listed on the site. A few minutes of exploring will uncover a treasure trove of shows you'll come to love.

We've recently created the Podcast Peer Awards Sampler. It contains sample shows of some of the excellent podcasts created by our members. It's a great way to expand your horizons by adding just one feed to your podcatcher.

There are currently over 500 members participating in the Podcast Peer Awards. If you're not one of them yet, take a moment to sign up. It's free, of course, and it will give you a chance to participate, nominate shows, and influence the votes in the next round.

Why We Do This

There are over 50,000 audio and video podcasts available. Most of them are lousy. How can you find the ones worth listening to?

Top Ten or Top Twenty-five lists are little more than popularity contests. You'll find some great shows there, shows that deserve their popularity. But you'll also find quite a few that are, well, let's just say that more people listen to Brittany Spears than Miles Davis. If you rely on popularity based lists and awards you'll be missing some of the best shows out there.

Where can you find the best podcasts in the universe? Right here, at the Podcast Peer Awards. These awards are given by the people who know podcasting best - other podcasters. They recognize quality. They celebrate creativity. They ferret out the small, unnoticed, and otherwise ignored shows you've missed. They debate and discuss and argue about these shows as they vote for (and against) audio and video podcasts that cover every style and every approach to podcasting. And in the end, only the best, only the very best, win.
